For your hunting pleasure, we offer you the privileges of our Roan Creek Ranch—11,000 acres of privately owned and/or leased hunting rights in what is generally considered the best elk, bear and mule deer hunting anywhere. I have personally hunted with a bow for 28 years, and have taken deer, elk, bear and a mountain lion that were of record book size. One of the bucks I took ranked third in the Pope and Young world records for bow and arrow kills, when taken. I am a senior member of the Pope and Young club. I have over 40 years of guiding experience.

This hunt offers you the best chance for a trophy bull. Success on these hunts has run up to 71% kill on large 6x6 bulls. Up to 85% kill on 5 point bulls and larger (western count). This ranch has been in the family for over 60 years. We began advertising for hunters on this ranch in 1961. We have taken bulls on this ranch that were Boone & Crockett record book size. The bull on the front of the brochure is a 400+ bull! Along with the excellent elk hunting, we also have some very large mule deer on the ranch. Many bucks have been taken up to the 30” range in spread, some even larger. This hunting area is the best hunting area we offer. We can put you in a hunting area here and you will not see another hunter all day. We furnish cook, meals and cabin accommodations on the first 2 hunts. Separate sleeping quarters are optional. Outfitter will be in camp on the first two hunts to show you where and how to hunt the area.

October 11th through October 15th, 5 days of hunting elk and bear.

Dates and prices for 2008 UNGUIDED hunts on this property are:

October 23rd through October 26th, 4 days hunting elk, deer and bear, $1,480.00 with 400.00 rebate*. Deer vouchers available for this hunt.

November 1st through November 7th, 7 days hunting elk $1,600 with $500.00 rebate*.

November 12th through November 16th, 5 days hunting elk $1,000 with $500.00 rebate*.

Rebate: On these hunts, if you fail to bag a Elk Deer or Bear, you will receive the rebate at the end of the hunt. Send the unused license at the end of the season, and we will send you the rebate. This rebate expires on December 31, 2008. No rebates will be given after the expiration date.

On the last 3 hunts you provide your own camp or rent a cabin. Call for details. We will show you where and how to hunt the area on a map. We have had up to 100% kill on some of these hunts. Prices include trout fishing. We drive into the area and hunt on foot. If you fail to draw a deer license, deer vouchers are available.

Unguided hunts on the Gasaway lease are as follows: $300.00 per person for the 1st hunt. $380.00 per person for the 2nd hunt. $350.00 per person for the 3rd hunt. $250.00 per person for the 4th hunt. Call for details. 2 to 3 hunters maximum.

Bow, Muzzleloader, Rifle-Elk, Deer, Bear-West Roan Creek Unit 30

1994 was the first year for many years that this ranch has been open for unguided hunters. Up to then only guided hunters were allowed. This is the part of Roan Creek Ranch that offers some early and late seasons trophy hunting for elk, deer and bear. The area has a resident herd, but with some snow, it pulls in game from other areas. With the right weather, this area can be better hunting later on in the season. I have been hunting this area since the mid 1960’s for deer with rifle hunters. With the increase of elk in the area, I have also started hunting the area for elk with bow and rifle hunters. Success on these hunts has run as high as 80% kill on bulls, 67% kill on four and five point bulls (western count). I have had hunts that had 100% shooting at large bulls. I have had hunters who have passed up five bulls before they shoot one. Along with the excellent elk hunting we also have some of the finest mule deer hunting anywhere. Bucks up to 40” spread have been shot and missed. Every year we get bucks close to the 30” class or at least see them. Unguided hunters will be able to access this area with dirt bikes, walking, ATVs and horses. I can help you find someone for horse rentals, if needed. All I furnish is access and private hunting on the hunt. Tent rentals are available.

Archery-Elk, Deer, Bear-Lower Roan Creek Unit 31

This is the part of the Roan Creek Ranch that offers the best chances for a trophy bull elk. Bulls large enough for the Boone & Crokett record book have been taken on this part of the ranch. One of my bow hunters took the largest bull taken in the state of Colorado for that year. It had a 52” spread and scored around 342 Pope & Young. Guided hunt success has run as high as 100% shooting at 6x6 bulls, 25 yards or less, broadside! Unguided hunt success has run as high as 67% kill on bulls. There is also some excellent mule deer hunting on this part of the ranch. Bowhunters hunt this same ranch for about half the price of a rifle hunt in the same area. We furnish cook, meals and cabin accommodations on the first 2 hunts. Separate sleeping quarters are optional. Outfitter will be in camp to show you where and how to hunt the area on the first two hunts.

Sept. 22, 2008 through Sept. 28, 2008, you bring your own camp or rent a cabin, 6 1/2 days of elk bow hunting. Combo hunts $200 extra, turkey hunting $100 extra, $900 per person.

The first two hunts include cabin accommodations, hot and cold running water and excellent trout fishing. Extra days can be booked in advance. We drive into the hunting area from camp. All elk hunts are either sex. No permanent tree stands will be used. Hunters must furnish their own portable tree stands on all of our hunts. We rent portable tree stands. No draw for elk bow licenses, draw only for deer licenses.

Muzzleloader-Elk & Deer-Lower Roan Creek Unit 31

We hunt the Lower Roan Creek on the muzzle hunts. Most of the hunting for elk is done by bugling. This is a fun time to hunt because of the nice weather and the bulls are bugling. My muzzleloaders have enjoyed up to 100% shooting at 5 point bulls and larger, 15 yards or less. We have taken some very large bulls with muzzleloaders. This is a good time to bag a huge mule deer. We hunt the Lower Ranch for the big bucks. We have had up to 133% shooting at bucks, 67% kill on 3x3 and larger. Good chance for bear on these hunts. Fishing

Summertime fishing, horseback riding (ask about the availability of this option), and other fun things to do are available on the Lower Ranch. This ranch has cabins with running water. Cost will depend on how many people and the length of time you desire. Call or write for rates.
